Whitehall councilmember keeps her seat after recall election recount
WHITEHALL, Ohio (WCMH) A Whitehall city councilwoman will keep her seat after a recount of election results from a recall vote were certified.
Lori Elmore was one of three city officials targeted in a recall election last month alongside Mayor Michael Bivens and Councilwoman Amy Harcar. Unofficial results had Bivens and Harcar keeping their seats, but Elmore was recalled by six votes before outstanding ballots were certified.
Due to the slim margin, the Franklin County Board of Elections issued a mandatory recount and certified those results on Tuesday. In the end, Elmore was not ousted from office and will retain her seat on Whitehalls city council.
This was the first recall election in Whitehall since 2009, when councilwoman Jacquelyn Thompson was removed from office. The NAACP alleged the recall election was framed by outside interference and should never have happened.
