Hello NC group! Moved here 2 months ago to WNC from a 'burb outside of Denver and am still getting my feet underneath me.
Voted here yesterday, straight blue and am so disgusted by the cawthorn win I can't see straight. Holding out hope that Joe and Kamala win to help straighten out my world.
I really haven't met anyone, prob due to covid and where I live (Lake Lure), but I'll be locating out of the mountains to Fletcher and hope to meet a few good folks, make some friends and figure out how to get the nasty nazi out of offfice.
Keeping good thoughts as the counts go on today....

(1,562 posts)I am in WNC, currently living in Lake Lure (up in the mountains) but it's really not compatible for me & my pets, so next month I'm moving down into Fletcher, just outside of South Asheville.

Loved living in CO as it turned from red to purple to mostly blue. Hopeful that the same kind of change can happen here - a place so beautiful shouldn't be ruined by the ugly repugs.

(29,814 posts)I'm here in Durham came from CA in 2007 and never been more homesick than i am right now. I don't know where Lake Lure or Fletcher are but if you're in Western NC you will probably encounter many people who already believe that trump won the election. Here in the triangle I am in a very blue area thankfully.
Welcome to NC, I hope you do well here. it is a beautiful state with some real shitty politics. it's been very good for my family and me in terms of opportunity and lifting up our lifestyle. we've done so much better than we could have accomplished in CA just because of the cost of living. Our trip here was serendipitous; we've been lucky.
still homesick.

(1,562 posts)Colorado has become really cost prohibitive from a living standpoint. I'm still working and do well but was tired of being so tied to a really expensive mortgage. Needing to move to a single-level home, it would have cost me a fortune there - something I didn't want to do so after looking for 6-7 months, here I am!
While I've missed fall in CO, it's so pretty here and there's so much to see and do, that I'll be busy for a while. What I didn't expect was the area that I moved to to be so insular and unwelcoming. So I'm changing that and moving out of the mountains into town and I know I'll be happier.
I'm sorry you're homesick for CA - that's an awful feeling. I hope you've built some relationships in the Durham area and that help sustain you through your down times.
