ASHEVILLE -- On the fourth night of protests in downtown Asheville, demonstrators continued to defy an 8 p.m. curfew and were eventually met with another show of force from the Asheville Police Department.
Hundreds gathered near the Vance Monument June 3 in a continuation of the nationwide response to the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer.
June 3 was the second night of the curfew issued by the city of Asheville, and demonstrators remained defiant as members of the national guard and local police lined the road in front of the downtown police station.
Protesters defy curfew
As curfew approached, several organizers urged the crowd to leave.
Luis Mejia, of Asheville, was among those who headed home just before 8 p.m., saying that he couldnt get arrested. But he also supported others decision to stay.

(116,806 posts)It's been over five weeks since I've covered the lower Atlantic coast states with any thoroughness. I've been taking some time off to work on some administrative tasks related to my brother's job.
Welcome to Texas, I thought that you were out in Nevada. I'll probably be checking on Georgia news tomorrow night.

If I am extremely diligent I have been able to report something from each state within 10 days. Currently, I am standing at 31 one days though. At least every state gets some coverage occasionally which is my goal. I know that when I joined DU in 2011 there was very little posted in the Texas Group which was discouraging. I started posting in that group, then moved out to adjacent states, and finally went countrywide during 2016 as the primaries were held. What is encouraging is that there are OPs being made in several of the state groups by other members so I consider those posts as a dividend to promote discussion and provide information.
