HIGH POINT It looks like Bennett College will reach its $5 million goal.
High Point University announced Friday it is standing with Bennett with a gift of $1 million. This is the biggest donation Bennett has received since it began its aggressive fundraising effort two months ago in an effort to hold onto its accreditation.
The HPU gift raises Bennetts fundraising total to $4.8 million. Bennett officials said this amount doesnt include a flood of contributions received late this week as well as other significant gifts that the college hasnt yet made public.
Bennett President Phyllis Worthy Dawkins said after Fridays announcement that shes sure the college will hit its fundraising target.

(116,804 posts)financial difficulties when we discussed Bennett awhile ago. Hopefully, they will get their accreditation renewed and it's great that they were able to get the alumni and other local sources to muster the resources. What will be key to their future is to create a program to build their endowment for the future.
