NC lawmakers are planning to vote on a constitutional amendment that could block 300k eligible voters. Call & tell your rep to vote NO: 919-883-4528This issue is more than just theoretical. It is likely that the confusion and legal wrangling over the previous voter ID law was enough to depress turnout amongst African American voters.
Are you in favor of the constitutional amendments being proposed by legislators? Because this could come up for a legislative vote in May, contact your NCGA legislators soon to let them know what you think. If the NCGA passes these proposals, NC voters will vote them up or down in November. If this issue matters to you, make sure your voice is heard at the ballot box this year!"

(24,094 posts)that can provide these numbers (fraud voting) because there literally aren't any, perhaps 1 in 1,000,000,000 attempts (and I'm probably understating this figure too).
This is a clear and blatant violation of one's constitutional right to vote in a democracy. This is wrong and because a lot of the repug states are all going in different ways in their so called voter suppression efforts in different manners, the feds need to step in and regulate the whole thing and rule all other state efforts in limiting voting invalid.

VRA needs to be not weakened but expanded and strengthened at Fed level to stop this shit and the gerrymandering too (require districts be drawn by non-political, non-partisan committee who are NOT elected officials).

(6,650 posts)As I understand it, the whole voter ID thing is about requiring voters to show an ID at the polling place. Maybe there's more to it, but that's what I understand.
If that's correct, I don't see where the problem is. Having a valid ID is not a big deal: a driver's license, state-issued ID, passport, anything with your name and picture on it.
What is it about this voter ID thing that I don't understand?

(54,155 posts)if voter id effectively denies the right to vote to 300,000 citizens, shouldn't north carolina suffer a proportionate reduction in its share of seats in the house of representatives per the 14th amendment?
