Bankruptcy judge approves sale of Stokes County hospital

A federal bankruptcy court judge has approved the sale of Stokes County’s hospital and other medical facilities for $400,000 to a for-profit organization with limited experience running hospitals.

An affiliate of LifeBrite Hospital Group LLC of Lilburn, Ga., has been running the Stokes facilities since July 9 — three days before the Stokes Board of Commissioners said it would stop paying for the hospital’s financial commitments.

There is little public information about LifeBrite, including whether it runs any other hospital. According to the Georgia Corporations Division, it was formed in October 2015 with Christian Fletcher as its only listed officer. LifeBrite formed a Stokes subsidiary on Oct. 12.

The court set a closing date of Jan. 31 for the Stokes transaction.

1. I worked there

for several months when I first got out of the Army in 1980. Then I went to college and back into the Army as an officer. I still live nearby and teach in one of the county high schools. Nice place to work back then. Not sure how it is now.

2. As population health care grows
