Winston-Salem readying for Clinton, Obama appearance Thursday

Heavy traffic is expected today around Joel Coliseum as thousands of people are projected to attend the early-vote rally for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Clinton will campaign with first lady Michelle Obama. The rally is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. for the 2 p.m. event.

The Winston-Salem Police Department said that in addition to heavy traffic starting this morning, there will be sporadic road closures and detours in the immediate area around the coliseum.

Police officers will be on hand to direct traffic near the coliseum starting around 7 a.m., said Capt. Jeff Watson the department’s special operations division.
