McCrory, Cooper lay out differences at business forum in Pinehurst

PINEHURST - Pat McCrory and Roy Cooper each tried to persuade business leaders gathered in Pinehurst on Thursday morning that they deserve to be elected governor in November.

McCrory, the one-term Republican incumbent, and Cooper, the Democratic attorney general, made separate speeches at the Summer Leadership Conference of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, held in Pinehurst.

McCrory summarized things that he and the legislature have done over the past four years. These include teacher pay raises, a reorganization of state government and tax cuts for corporations and people.

McCrory reiterated his support for House Bill 2, a law the legislature passed in March at the behest of social conservatives who said a Charlotte anti-discrimination ordinance would put people at risk of sexual assault in public restrooms.
