I think I'm the only legislator in the building. Let me take care of a few things. Medicaid = expanded. Teachers = paid. Film = jobs. #NCGA

Am now receiving lots of calls from actual lobbyists. Even the false appearance of power gets their attention. #JustOneLegislator #ncga

Just had a big debate over cutting the university system even more. Decided not to, because obviously that's a bad idea.

Our jails are filled with the mentally ill and chemically addicted. Just expanded mental health care for them.

(34,265 posts)and I bet when the GOP leadership finds out.....he NEVER gets left alone again, snow day or not. He really is making the 34 republicans in their senate look like fools. And he is a newbie!

(23,156 posts)stupid rules about some sort of quorum being needed to pass these things. Too bad.

(9,126 posts)And puppy mills too! Oh yeah Jeff Jackson, let's keep you in charge and fire everyone else. It's funny when politicos tell the truth, though it doesn't happen very often.

(469 posts)... so, the guys who represent the JOB CREATORS, the ones with the alleged "ethic of hard work", STAYED HOME, because of the snow, and the only guy who bothered to show up is a representative of the alleged "welfare cheats" ... do I have that right?
Or, perhaps, are those allegations bass-ackwards?

(84,331 posts)Glad you're here! Isn't it ironic! The only guy who showed up to work is the one who purportedly represents the lazy moocher contingent. Seems to me the lazy moochers are the ones who only do business at big-ticket expense-account lunches and out on the golf course, or out on the boat, or some such. And they're probably not even driving their own cars to those "workplaces." I guess there are lazy moochers and there are lazy moochers. Different versions for different camps.

(84,331 posts)Great to have you with us! This is definitely one of the Good Guys! Be proud!
I'm just still flummoxed over the fact that majorities in the red states seem to be more okay with it being the other way. They may not be moved by this. And they SHOULD be! At least THIS guy is earning his paycheck.

(14,971 posts)century until the 2010 midterms when the R's took over. They then proceeded to gerrymander the districts and pass voting restrictions to keep it that way. It's very frustrating.

(84,331 posts)If the bad guys are in control at the governor's level when the census is taken and when the population numbers from that census trigger Congressional reapportionment, then THEY get to run the table, and twist and turn the rules until the whole rule book looks like a giant pretzel. The census counts population movement and increase or decrease. Congressional districts are redrawn accordingly. And if the GOP is in charge when that happens, they're gonna do everything they can to rig the game in their favor.
That is - until they can figure out how to win strictly on the issues. And with the positions they take, embrace, and cling to like nobody's business, that's pretty much impossible. The ONLY way they can win honestly is to change their positions on some of the key issues. Like immigration. Like women's rights. Like voting rights. Like tax cuts - do away with them and RAISE taxes on the 1% and the rest of those who can easily afford to pay more. And they won't. They cling to those outdated, tone-deaf, damn-near irrelevant (to the current times) positions almost as though their lives depended on it. They do envision a staunchly CONservative United States of America - across the board. It will never be achievable. Not EVER. Anymore than ISIS can jam its narrow worldview down the throats of the rest of the world that disagrees and doesn't want to comply.
