Was this legal?

My grandson was going door to door selling a product. When he knocked on the door man opened it and pointed a gun at him, told him to get off his property. Was it legal for him to point a gun at him?

Maybe not, every state has it's own laws on that, if you do that here in Oregon you can be charged with brandishing that is a direct threat and illegal here and should be illegal everywhere. I

He’s lucky it wasn’t one of those trigger-happy cops at the door. he would’ve gotten shot. Definitely if he was Black, he would’ve been killed

of the next innocent person who goes on his property, bet he never gets charged. He’ll say that he told your grandson to leave and he wouldn’t, it didn’t happen, or something that gets him off.

But, you won’t know until you contact police and they investigate. Maybe they’ve had other reports and decide to do something.

but pointing a gun at someone who isn't a threat is clearly dangerous behavior. It sounds like a threat to do physical harm, so I would say it's a crime, as well as (we now know) incredibly bad firearms safety practice. I would file a police complaint. Even if the cops just go talk to him it might slow him down a bit. He sounds dangerous.
For what it's worth here is a link to a North Carolina law firm's web page. If you scroll down towards the bottom it says it is a misdemeanor offense to point a gun at someone for the purpose of terrorizing him:
https://www.chetson.com/north-carolina-gun-rights/

It's in the section on how you can legally carry a firearm

Too bad our side doesn't have vigilantes willing to do the same, like their side does.
