Republican Thind withdraws from NY-18 Congressional race after complaint

Sharanjit Thind, a Republican and Conservative candidate for New York’s 18th District congressional seat, has withdrawn from the race after Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck filed a complaint with the New York State Board of Elections.

Bruck announced on April 13 that he had filed a legal challenge with BOE regarding Thind’s ballot eligibility and asked that the petitions be declared invalid on grounds of intentional procedural defects, improper filing and a listed address that does not correspond with where Thind actually lives.

“The petitions misrepresented his (Thind’s) address,” said Bruck. “I don't think that it's a mistake that you accidentally put an address that happens to be in the district you're running in.”

The petitions listed Thind’s address as Lagrangeville, New York, in the 18th congressional district, while he was still living on Long Island, said Bruck.
