A State Department of Health report said that Covid-19 entered nursing homes through staff members, and that the death rate was similar to the state's overall coronavirus fatality rate, Health Commissioner Howard Zucker said Monday morning.
Zucker said the state's report showed that "admission policies were not a significant factor in nursing home fatalities."
The state and Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo have come under criticism regarding a March 25 state order that stated nursing homes were to take in Covid-19 positive patients.
Referencing reports and criticism the state has received, Zucker said at the opening of Monday's briefing, "that sometimes a narrative gets perpetuated, when its not based on facts."

Many and I will say many many of the Staff work at more than one home during a Work Week. This are minimum Wage Workers and only part time hours. Example of one small Town with two Nursing Homes, several of the Workers spent the morning shift at one Home and then went across town to the other at noon to work the afternoon shift at the other.
Health Care Persons are often Employed by Medical Care Contractors and are required to do patient follow ups daily at several Facilities.

(4,507 posts)a report from his own dept of health is hardly real verification that his policy didn't play a role in the outbreak of Covid in nursing homes. That's like Trump getting an A+ from the head of Health and Human Services - it's not an unbiased source and worth diddly.

She would be at up to ten Facilities a day before Covid shut that travel down. She can not,at this time,do follow up care or in person contacts. But,as she has said on manner occasions, many nursing Aide's as well as LPN's are working more than one Care Facility each day
