anymore but my dear inlaws lived in Schenectady and my daughter went to Cornell Medical School in the city. We all love New York and are praying that this awful pandemic will soon be over with no more losses.

(53 posts)Hi i'm just a couple of avenues over from Bellevue Hospital, one of 7 City owned and operated and the oldest public hospital in the world. We just getting started with the coming likely swamping of our medical capacity. It is going to be hellish for a couple of months. Planning on sending Wife & Middle school age son upstate in a few weeks, once the weather breaks up there. My Wife's summer cabin, isn't winterized so I'm thinking later in April for them. Just south of the Catskills, but all the suburbs are colder than the city this time of the year, plus heat is provided here, so better here for now. With the whole UN and many college staff, college students, and the prosperous all gone the food markets are doing fine for now.

I am not in NYC, but Rochester and Buffalo have become hubs of infection outside of NYC. I am in the Buffalo region and there are confirmed cases in my community, as well as several unconfirmed people in quarantine for observation.
It is scary because I am a senior with health issues. But not much I can do besides keep to myself and wash often. Poor hands are getting raw. Good thing I also have a lot of skin lotion.
Lately I have been wondering what will happen after the peak. People will want to go out again, but it still won't be all clear yet.
Local nursing schools are graduating seniors early this spring so they can join the health teams that are so badly needed now. But no ceremonies. Not possible with social distancing.

(22,512 posts)Many in my family (extended and otherwise) live in the tri-state area (NY-NJ-CT) surrounding NYC and in the Hudson Valley.
I myself live in New Rochelle, one of the "hot spots" in that region. Things started rather early for us there, but one of the first cases that started the outbreak is recovering. (hence the boldface hashtag)
These days, while I "hunker in the bunker", I watch the press conferences of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and then my county executive's. They, along with my mayor and city council are doing a fine job, certainly a lot better than the federal level is.
Again, my thanks, and my thoughts are also with you, wherever you are.
