How the state budget will impact your wallet, for better or worse

ALBANY - The state Legislature and Gov. Andrew Cuomo passed a balanced budget for the new fiscal year that started Monday, but New Yorkers will be paying for it in a number of ways.

While Democrats who control the state Legislature lauded the $175 billion package, there are several new taxes and fees that could hit residents' wallets.

There is some good news for taxpayers, too: a permanent tax cap and another round of middle-class tax cuts, for example.

Republicans ripped the budget, though.

"Democrats have totally turned their backs on local governments and middle-class families struggling through New York’s growing affordability crisis," said Senate Minority Leader John J. Flanagan, R-Suffolk County.
