With new limo regs on way, industry mad over new inspection fee

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo was successful in getting a package of tougher laws targeting illegal and unsafe stretch limousines included in the $175 billion state budget that was hammered out over the weekend.

Although the state Assembly and Senate originally removed nearly all of the governor's proposed limo regulations from earlier versions of the budget, large portions of Cuomo's original plan — and some additions — made it into the final budget agreement.

That includes a new $85 state inspection fee that has limo operators up in arms.

Cuomo spokesman Jason Conwall said the governor "aggressively pursued these common-sense initiatives, and the landmark legislation that is now enacted will enhance safety for all New Yorkers and visitors as they travel on our roads."
