Cynthia Nixon switches up 1977 anti-gay slogan in attack on Cuomo's 'history of cutthroat campaigns'

ALBANY — "Vote for the homo, not for the Cuomo."

Democratic gubernatorial challenger Cynthia Nixon, a self-proclaimed lesbian, turned the tables on the governor at the 118th annual Legislative Correspondents Association show Tuesday.

She switched up a campaign slogan he's rumored to have coined during his father's failed run against Mayor Ed Koch in 1977.

"Andrew Cuomo is known for dirty politics but I have to give credit where it's due," Nixon told the crowd. "His history of cutthroat campaigns, helped inspire my campaign's new slogan."

Posters with the original slogan, "Vote for Cuomo, not the homo," were intended to capitalize on homophobia and innuendo about Koch's sexuality.
