Schenectady Dems challenge hundreds of City Council vote petitions
SCHENECTADY- Former City Council President Margaret "Peggy" King is challenging nearly half of political rookie Damonni Farley's 1,149 petitions in a bid to derail his candidacy to win a seat on the council.
King, who deferred comment Monday to Schenectady Democratic Chairman Richard Naylor, is contesting 534 signatures on the grounds that they are invalid because the person is not a registered voter or enrolled in the Democratic party.
She filed the objections as a city Democratic committee woman last week on behalf of the party.
Farley, 36, said Monday that the challenges sends a chilling message to would-be City Council hopefuls about going up against the establishment. He said it was a case of political obstructionism.
