Former Congressman Maurice Hinchey Has Terminal Neurological Disorder

KINGSTON, NY — Former Congressman Maurice Hinchey has frontotemporal degeneration, a terminal neurological disorder, his family announced Tuesday. Hinchey, 78, was treated for colon cancer in 2011 and has been living with the neurological diagnosis since then.

Ilene Marder, Hinchey’s wife, said she wanted to share the information publicly in light of the possible reductions in health care coverage being discussed in Washington now, the Daily Freeman reported.

Hinchey, a Democrat, was first elected to the state Assembly in 1974 and to Congress in 1992. He retired, citing health reasons, at the end of 2012.

he'd perk right up when I'd call him out by name & he found out I was a Democrat.

I coveted him until we elected Kirsten Gillibrand here in NY-20 and they worked so well together. We sure could use both of them in the House right now.
