Senate GOP gives thumbs-down to millionaires tax extension
A Wednesday-morning meeting of the state Senates Republican majority conference gave a thumbs-down to Gov. Andrew Cuomos proposed three-year extension of the millionaires tax on the states top earners, which is slated to sunset at the end of the year.
We just had a brief conference, went over the budget, and the opinion of our members is that they dont like it at all, said Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan in a Q&A that followed his appearance at a rally of charter school supporters in the well of the Legislative Office Building.
Flanagan told reporters that Senate staff had only received the budget bills Tuesday night at 8 p.m. (Im not being critical thats just when we got em) about the same time Cuomo was briefing reporters about the plan at the Executive Mansion. He also noted that school aid runs hadnt been released yet. (The data, however, was out last night.)
The education proposals the details are going to be extremely important, he said.
