With just three months left until the UFO Festival, Roswell is preparing once again for its busiest time of year. Brijesh Bhakta, owner and manager of the Western Inn Hotel in Roswell, said after a year without tourists, hes ready. Its generally considered our special event weekend. We do have a lot of good music in the park and a lot of tourism come in, so Im hoping to see all that come back to Roswell, he said.
Despite the excitement, state rules and COVID-19 precautions still loom. Roswell, and all of Chaves County, are currently in the Green level of restrictions. If Chaves County stays green during the festival, places of lodging would still be at 75% capacity, while restaurants would be at 50% indoors and 75%outdoors. Mass gatherings would be limited to 20 people, or 120 vehicles.
Event coordinators say they have various options on the table and will nail things down closer to the event. Robert Chapman, co-founder of In-Depth Events, LLC said theyre following the state guidelines. Were following the mandates by the state and of course," he said. "We want to make sure that we build a very safe event for people."

(10,402 posts)It's a humongous tourist trap in my opinion. Like I didnt have a good time when I went in 2018. I skipped out going with family to Ruidoso to go with my friend and still friend to Roswell for this event. Safe to say. It nearly cost us our friendship because of how disappointing it was and how she was more concerned about getting a tattoo and not wanting to do the scavenger hunt. She ended up not wanting to do half of what we planned on because of dumb reasons she never told me.
It was disappointing. Extremely disappointing. The only saving grace was the Billy the kid museum in Ft Sumner. I think mostly our fight soured my expectations and experience.

(26,727 posts)some other time of year. There's a fascinating UFO museum which has both the absolutely straightforward account of the found crashed object, whatever it might have been, the immediate follow-up, and also things like dioramas of the now ubiquitous large eyed aliens.
Better yet, there are two amazing art museums which are well worth the trip there by themselves.
