ALBUQUERQUE - Valerie Plame, a former spy whose identity was leaked to the press by the President George W. Bush Administration, is considering a run for an open U.S. Congressional seat in New Mexico.
The former CIA operative told The Associated Press on Friday she is meeting with New Mexico residents and will make a decision soon.
Plame says shed be honored to represent the New Mexico district which represents northern and eastern New Mexico. It is currently held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Rey Lujan, who is stepping down to run for U.S. Senate.
Plame, a Democrat and critic of President Donald Trump, is the author of the memoir Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House.

(26,727 posts)Actually, I wish she'd run for the Senate seat, but I'd be happy with her running for the House. And I'd do serious volunteer work for her campaign if she does run.
Not that she's waiting for my approval.

(10,467 posts)It's not like she has been involved in New Mexico's public or political life for the last 10 years. I just don't see who she will appeal to outside of Santa Fe in district 3.

(26,727 posts)Keep in mind that this is a state that cheerfully elects, or attempts to elect, those related to former elected officials with zero consideration of qualifications.
At least Ms. Plame would have a husband who is already connected to the government. As she herself is.
