Sharpton blasts state takeover at Atlantic City rally
ATLANTIC CITY — The Rev. Al Sharpton called a state takeover of this city unconstitutional Sunday night and urged residents to march on Washington, D.C., to protest President-elect Donald Trump.
Sharpton, a civil-rights activist and cable news host, gave a rousing speech at a rally at All Wars Memorial Building, where he accused the state of suspending democracy by appointing an “unelected czar” to oversee the city.
“Atlantic City is now a colony,” Sharpton said. “Anytime they come in and suspend your elected officials and put an unelected czar over you, if you aren’t angry about that there is something wrong with you.”
Sharpton, who leads the National Action Network, is on tour to promote a Jan. 14 march on Washington. He cited the state takeover and Trump’s business dealings in the resort as reasons why residents should join the march.
