Drew University student charged with threatening to shoot others

A student at Drew University in Madison has been charged with threatening to shoot other students and shoving three police officers though he did not have a gun and was likely drunk.

Liam M. Kealy, 18, of Bloomfield, was charged Sunday with creating a false public alarm by threatening to use a gun to shoot other students and with aggravated assault on three officers. Two officers were pushed, grabbed and shoved and a third, Sgt. James Cavezza, allegedly was shoved, spat at, and pushed into a cell door by Kealy, criminal complaints said.

The complaints, made public Monday in Superior Court, Morristown, state that Kealy stated he was armed with a gun and was going to shoot other students. The alleged statements resulted in an immediate police response and "lockdown of Foster Hall" at the private university, the complaint said.

However, a communication sent to the Drew University community early Sunday by William Ortman, director of campus safety, said a lockdown did not happen.
