NEPTUNE Could letting New Jersey residents pump their own gasoline for a discounted price help them cope from sticker shock if the gas tax goes up?
Senate President Stephen Sweeney doesnt think pump-your-own price cuts would actually materialize and he says hell never allow self-serve legislation to move forward on his watch.
New Jersey is the only state that bars self-serve.
Ive never been a supporter of self-serve, Sweeney, a Democrat from Gloucester County, said during an Asbury Park Press editorial board meeting Tuesday. The retailers are controlling the numbers. All youre doing is increasing their profit. You wont see the savings because it just disappears.

Seriously?
Too many dinosaurs in the legislature.

(116,780 posts)About 15 years ago I did have to pump gas into a car for a woman that did not know how to use a gas pump. I didn't check her license plates though.

(116,780 posts)since I read an article about it awhile ago. I can only remember seeing a gas attendant once in Texas as an adult and I put on some serious mileage on my vehicle some years (35,000 miles in a twelve month period during 1999-2000).

He's wimping out with the NJEA, kissed Christie's ass over Buono, won't even consider a wine/beer at tables license and now this?
He's an opportunist. Whose ass is he kissing now? Who is benefiting from this?
Texas - start posting Phil Murphy posts back here.
We need a new way.

(116,780 posts)Thanks for the heads up so I can keep my eyes open for him. I'm about as familiar with the politicians as anyone can be since I post in all of the state groups as well as the U.S. territories, but knowing about every politician is nearly impossible. Unfortunately, by the time I sweep through all of the states I'm probably only getting about 35%-40% coverage on each state.

(33,555 posts)In the winter - I really appreciate it.
When I'm in a hurry and there is only one attendant - since I lived in NY until I was about 32 - I would just as soon get out and get it done myself.
