It's Hamawy in the 12th district.
He's my Democratic nominee and of course, I'm voting for him. (There were 13 candidates running for the office, so better than 20% was a big win.) He had the support of Bernie Sanders and AOC.
One of my best friends will probably abstain, because Dr. Hamawy's main source of support came from a Pro-Palestinian PAC. My friend is a "one issue" voter, support for Israel. As we disagree, I avoid the subject with my friend.
Dr. Hamawy is a plastic surgeon, a former military surgeon, who saved the life of Tammy Duckworth when she was wounded in Iraq. Dr Hamawy was a military surgeon at that time.
He more recently volunteered to treat the civilian wounded in Gaza, particularly children.
I voted for Professor Sam Wang, who came in a surprisingly high third. I'm biased to vote for scientists.
It is said that the 12th district is solidly blue, and the Democratic nominee is certain to win. I hope this is true; I'm fairly positive it is.
Although my guy didn't win, I support Dr. Hamawy and look forward to his service in the House of Representatives where he will be a thorn in the side of the neofascists vandalizing our country.
