Wawa pays $3M settlement to family of child scalded at Neptune store

The Wawa convenience store chain has paid $3 million to settle a lawsuit brought by the family of a child scalded at its Neptune store when a cup of hot water burst on the checkout line, according to court documents.

Wawa Inc., which operates the convenience store on Route 66 in Neptune where the accident occurred on April 25, 2018, agreed on March 30 to settle the federal lawsuit brought by Carl and Roya Konzman of Virginia on behalf of their minor child, according to the documents.

The convenience-store chain paid the judgment in full by April 1, the documents said.

The settlement represented a compromise in which the Pennsylvania-based convenience-store chain made no admission of wrongdoing, liability or fault, the settlement document said.
