Authorities say a Lakewood man has been cited for hosting a wedding at his residence during the coronavirus pandemic. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer says 39-year-old William Katzenstein was issued a summons for hosting the gathering, despite Gov. Phil Murphy banning weddings and other social events to curb the COVID-19 spread.
Police were called Thursday to Katzensteins residence on Wayne Street for a report of a gathering of around 40 people. Officers broke up the wedding at Katzensteins property.
We understand that everyones daily routine has been effected by the coronavirus and our States effort to isolate and contain the spread of this outbreak. Its not easy. We understand how difficult it is change your way of living. We are all adapting as best we can. We all need to recognize the vital role we all have in flattening the curve of this outbreak. Stay home, practice social distancing and please be considerate of the risks our men and women in law enforcement are facing every day, Billhimer said in a statement.
Katzenstein was issued a summons for violating any rule or regulation adopted by the governor.

(25,595 posts)At 5PM there was a wedding going on at a private residence on McDaniel Street in the Alta Vista section of Greenville, SC. Lots of cars parked on the street. Lots of people in fancy clothes standing between the mansion's columns for photos with the bride and her bridesmaids. Music coming from the house. Revelry.
I walk by this house often, and I can tell you for a FACT that during election seasons they always have GOP candidates' signs in their yard. Sorry rich folks, but some of you are soon to learn the meaning of a term you hate: EQUAL OPPORTUNITY. The novel COVID-19 doesn't give a rat's ass who you are, or who your daddy is. It is an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY killer.

(621 posts)I cant imagine being young and having wedding plans during this, but in sickness and in health should not start during or because of your wedding. A legal wedding could have taken place, with the celebration put off until better circumstances.
Im currently trying to decide about getting married. I still mourn my first husband. I thought it wasnt right to get married while living with a ghost. Its been almost 5 years, so maybe this is how it works. Meanwhile, a very patient man keeps asking. Now hes mentioned that because Im on chemo, he thinks we should get married so he has rights should I become sick or to carry out my final wishes. Its making sense. My friend is a Justice of the Peace and offered to stand 8 feet away and yell vows to the front porch. Its not how I imagined it, but these are different times.

(41,354 posts)There will be major issues in getting this community to follow guidelines. They are fundamentalist in their observance of their religion and believe they will be protected by God because of their piety.
This is how they see the world. Take it from me, I know.

Believe me, I lived in Rockland County, NY for twelve years, I saw it first-hand.
