New Jersey Selects Ocean Wind for Offshore Wind Project

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) announced it has selected Ocean Wind, an 1,100 MW offshore wind energy project by ∅rsted with support from Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG). The offshore wind project will be located 15 miles off the coast of Atlantic City and is expected to begin in the early 2020s and the wind farm is expected to become operational in 2024.

In addition to powering homes across New Jersey and fulfilling Governor Murphy’s goal of supplying 1.5 million homes with renewable energy by 2030, the Ocean Wind Project will bring a significant impact to the immediate Atlantic City area. ∅rsted will launch its Pro-NJ Trust Fund in Atlantic and Cape May Counties, which will invest up to $15 million in grants to support local infrastructure investments and small, women, and minority-owned businesses who wish to become part of the emerging offshore wind industry.

Mayor Frank M. Gilliam, Jr. stated, “Atlantic City is looking forward to the Ocean Wind Project. ∅rsted has plans to establish an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) base which will bring permanent and high-skilled jobs to our area for the lifespan of the project. This project exemplifies our goals of sustainability and economic diversity for Atlantic City.”
