Insurer owes Bergen County hospital $1.6M million, lawsuit says

Health plan provider Amerigroup New Jersey owes the owners of the former Bergen County Regional Medical Center more than $1.6 million in unpaid charges, the hospital's owners say in a new lawsuit.

The Paramus hospital, rechristened Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in 2017, agreed in 2014 to provide medical services to Amerigroup's Medicaid members, but Amerigroup did not reimburse the hospital for some nursing services and has refused to pay for all detox services, the lawsuit alleges.

The amount owed for detox services exceeds $1 million and continues to accrue, while the owed reimbursement for nursing services top $670,000, according to the lawsuit.

Plaintiffs Bergen Regional Medical Center, hospital license owner the Bergen County Improvement Authority and hospital managers Care Plus Bergen filed the six-count suit in state Superior Court on Friday. They are accusing Amerigroup of breach of contract, unjust enrichment and consumer fraud.
