Delgado-Polanco resigns as NJ Dem vice chair

Lizette Delgado-Polanco has resigned as vice chair of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee and will be replaced by Somerset County Democratic chair Peg Schaffer, the New Jersey Globe has learned.

Schaffer will serve as interim vice chair and will run for a full term on a ticket with Democratic State Chairman John Currie when he seeks re-election late this year.

It is expected that Schaffer will win the endorsement of Gov. Phil Murphy, who is backing Currie for another term as state chairman. Currie faces a stiff challenge from LeRoy Jones, Jr., the Essex County Democratic chairman.

Delgado-Polanco resigned as executive director of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority yesterday after a two-month firestorm over questionable hiring practices that including allegations of nepotism.
