Jersey Shore mayor tells constituent to call cops on Jewish 'invaders'

You might expect a New Jersey mayor to ignore a constituent who tweeted a blatantly anti-Semitic complaint about Orthodox Jews “invading” local parks and beaches.

Or maybe rebuke the resident for his racist views.

Instead, Brick Township mayor John Ducey matter-of-factly suggested the resident contact police, according to HuffPo.

Ducey was quickly deluged with negative comments on social media. He sought to explain away his non-confrontational approach.

Maybe the Mayor's initial sarcasm was misunderstood. Maybe. OneBro Apr 2019 #1
How would a Jewish person keep others from using the beaches, etc.? patricia92243 Apr 2019 #2

Minor editing for ease of reading. See original Twitter thread. Sounds like the Mayor, a Democrat, was initially trying to be sarcastic.

After some backlash, Mayor Ducey@MayorDucey wrote:
I’m not following. I responded if there was a problem that park security should be made aware. The gentleman should call police to send them out to the park if they are not already there.

When BigLoganActHat @Popehat wrote:
You understand that his problem, that you told him to call the police over, is that there were Jews there?

Mayor Ducey then wrote:
But there would be no call made. That was my point. Call him out on the ridiculousness.

Cheesy@clmcheesy23 then wrote:
So why didn't you you do that? Instead you said that "park security already started". Call the the police and they'll take care of it. No condemnation, just subtle agreement!! Looks and sounds really bad

and Mayor Ducey@MayorDucey wrote:
The ignorance of the original tweet is shown in the tweet and reply. Others can see it as it is calling him out on the fact that no call will be made because there was no problem.
