Are Rutgers professors about to go on strike? Here's what we know.
Rutgers University administrators and representatives of the schools faculty union are scheduled to face off at an all-day bargaining session Monday that union officials called critical as professors weigh whether to call the first faculty strike in the state universitys nearly 253-year history.
Members of the Rutgers AAUP-AFT, which represents 4,800 full-time faculty and graduate workers, voted to authorize a strike last month, saying they were frustrated by the slow progress of contract talks that have gone on for more than a year.
Union leaders said they could call a strike at any time, but both sides met for several days last week and are scheduled to meet again Monday to try to reach a deal.
