Group run by ex-Christie aide not subject to public records law, court rules

A state appeals court has denied a woman's public records request from a nonprofit business development group run by a former aide to Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

The lawsuit sought records from Choose New Jersey. The group is headed by Michele Brown, who worked under Christie when he was U.S. attorney and later led New Jersey's Economic Development Authority.

Choose New Jersey describes its goals as encouraging economic growth in New Jersey. It's funded by corporate donations.

It drew scrutiny in 2015 when it was revealed the group paid for Christie's trade trips to Mexico, England and Canada. The trips came when Christie was considering running for president.
