Sandoval disagrees with Laxalt plan to eliminate commerce tax

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval said Tuesday he disagrees with Attorney General Adam Laxalt’s proposal to eliminate the commerce tax.

Sandoval responded to a report in the Nevada Independent that Laxalt, expected to announce a bid for governor in coming weeks, wants to repeal the levy sought by Sandoval and approved with some Republican support in 2015.

“I think it is going to hurt kids. I think it is going to hurt teachers. I think it is going to hurt parents,” he said in response to a question after the Board of Examiners meeting. “It would hurt our K-through- 12 system.”

Sandoval said the tax on businesses with gross revenues that exceed $4 million annually will bring in $391 million over the current two-year budget, every dollar of which is going directly to public education from Zoom schools to autism programs.

Sheldon Adelsen and Steve Wynn as well as the Tea Party Darling,Laxalt who is running to replace Sandoval. Our Education System is last or next to last Nationally. When you place below Mississippi, you really suck.

When are just now starting to get some type of handle on correcting this pathetic mess. Example being,Clark County Schools has 330k Students,44k Teacher and Administration Person's with a 60 million dollar short fall as of last week, and Teachers and Support Persons being axed as a result in order to try and fix the funding gap. One reason is how the State and Counties do their Property Tax collections, thus the School Funding formula is one big mess. Property Taxes here are payable over a nine month period of time. This new Business Tax is designed to even out the bumps plus supply Districts with some type of Financial cushion for Teacher Pay increases as well as Building repairs and replacement.

We here in Nevada are seeing what a poorly funded Education System results look like. The Casino Moguls have starved this State of producing tons of well Educated Persons, instead,we have a over abundance of Persons that fill the Casino Labor intensive jobs with zero future.
