Protection detail over-kill in Vegas

Grinching.
I'm all for keeping the CIC safe - but Las Vegas isn't Beirut, Kandahar, or a hotbed of Somali pirates.

Just received a call from a friend who is trying to get to the south part of town the (other side of the 215). EVERY SINGLE southbound road is blocked off between Decatur (that's as far west as she went before trying the other way, since most of the roads don't go far enough south from that point) past the 215/95 interchange - not just the entrance to the highway, where presumably the President and his entourage are traveling to Boulder City - but the roads as well.

The report said this:

There will be rolling closures for traffic on the 215 from the airport connector to the Henderson interchange and also on U.S. 95 from Russell Road to Railroad Pass. Traffic is expected to be severely congested in Boulder City during the President's visit. Police are advising motorists to avoid the city, if possible.

The truth is that they've shut down much more - and 'rolling' apparently is translating to 'the entire time he's here'.

Not to mention the poor sods who might need to travel south out of town, since they've shut down the 95.

This is ridiculous. Shutting down the city because the CIC is visiting? Really?

I described my own experience (we had a "rolling" event here in NC, Raleigh, a few weeks ago ... lasted about 8 minutes).

what my friend told me - calling from her car, stuck in traffic, trying to find a way to go south of the 215.

Sure, we have some traffic here, but there are always alternatives. In LA shutting down the 405 for even half an hour sets off a chain reaction across the whole metro area that doesn't recover for the rest of the day.

Having been stuck on the 405 long enough to raise a family, I understand what you're saying.
