All of Nevada's college presidents want student vaccine mandate reinstated

The presidents of every public college in Nevada say their students and staff want lawmakers to bring back a student vaccine mandate.

University of Nevada, Reno President Brian Sandoval echoed what all seven presidents of the state’s higher education institutions said during a meeting of the Board of Regents on Friday.

"We fully support a vaccine mandate," Sandoval said.

The 13-person elected board voted 9-to-4 to send a letter to Gov. Steve Sisolak and other lawmakers, who now hold the vaccine mandate power in their hands.

In an emergency measure in August, the State Board of Health approved mandating the COVID-19 vaccine for students to register for the spring semester. Students registering up until late December had to prove vaccine status or be approved for a religious or medical waiver.
