BLM offering 1400 cactus and yucca plants for sale Nov. 13 and 14

https://www.blm.gov/press-release/blm-offer-cactus-and-yucca-sale-november-13-14

"On November 13 and 14, 2021, BLM will offer more than 1,400 cacti and yucca for sale that were salvaged from within the Las Vegas Valley where they would otherwise have been destroyed by construction. The plant sale will take place near the intersection of Shaumber Road and Tropical Parkway.

Plants will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to individuals from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. those two days.

“We are pleased to offer this opportunity for individuals to spruce up their landscaping with native cacti and yucca at a very reasonable price,” said Shonna Dooman, Las Vegas Field Office Manager.

Harvesting any plants, including cacti, yucca and Joshua trees, from public lands is illegal without a permit. Permits for these plants are being issued by BLM because the plants would otherwise be destroyed by construction activity within the Las Vegas Valley.

Available plants include golden/silver cholla, pencil cholla, cottontop cactus, barrel cactus, Engelman’s hedgehog cactus, beavertail cactus and Mojave yucca.

Purchases must be made by cash or check and only people with a valid Nevada ID are eligible.  Prices vary from $3.60 for a small cactus to $14.40 for yucca.  Plants are not for resale. There is a limit of 15 total cacti and yucca per household for this sale."...(more)

Some 40 years ago I found some Prickly Pear Cactus growing wild in a cemetery near Big Rapids in Central Michigan. I ended up growing it when I use to live in Detroit. No problem, it's easy to grow.
Great plant for your yard and very healthy to eat the flowers, leaves, stems and fruit.

Also looks nice and keeps animals out of your garden and people away from your windows.

Thanks. This has reminded me to start some this year.

in gardens and growing wild. Beautiful yellow flowers followed by luscious red fruits that can be used for jelly, etc.

But at first glance I was thinking how nice it is for Black Lives Matter to be raising money like this. 😂😂

I have often seen vacant lots that hosted wildflowers simply ploughed over for construction, when the plants could easily have been salvaged and shared.
