There doesn't seem to be an explanation in the article.

Intelligence detectives executed search warrants signed by a district court judge this year seeking campaign and personal banking records of Assemblyman Alexander Assefa, a Democrat running for a second term in District 42.
Detectives also sought public documents Assefa filed under oath indicating that he lived in the Spring Valley district, as well as records and personal belongings that showed he actually was staying at a North Las Vegas home owned by his wife, Zenash Mebratu.
Assefa, 37, who did not respond to requests for comment, lists Mebratu as his wife on the Nevada Legislatures website, and Clark County property records show she has owned the two-story North Las Vegas home since August 2015.

I thought maybe he was being harassed by Trumpsters or something like that.

(15,143 posts)He may have misused monies provided by hard-working Democrats to help him get elected. And he may have falsely claimed a residency he didn't have, thus depriving another, more worthy Democrat of the opportunity to represent his true neighbors and constituents. I've no tolerance for such abuse of our trust. Besides, it's hard to hold others to a standard we won't evenly apply to our own.
And besides, the original article you posted only showed that a local politician tendered his resignation for reasons unknown. That's newsworthy enough no matter what his reasons.
