Nebraska Senate Race

I did not realize Deb Fischer is running unopposed. This is pretty sad for the state Democratic Party. There is however an Independent candidate, Dan Osborn. He sounds like an old school Democrat with a libertarian streak. His website says he led the strike at Kellogg that preserved hundreds of middle class jobs. Does anyone know anything about this guy? I think I like him. I damn sure like him better than Deb Fischer. I hope there is a debate.

I have met Dan and heard him speak at a fundraiser in Omaha. Hopefully he will be endorsed by the Nebraska Democratic Party. He is someone that Dems should be able to support.

But seriously, there is some crazy lack of logic where we're allowing Dem-on-Dem bloodletting in SAFE blue congressional districts to be primaried (with crazy amounts of spending from shadow PACs) and not even trying to compete for Senate seats.

Why do we believe these polls that tell us that they are super-safe, totally red districts forevermore? Can we get some ballpark estimates about what it would take to contest Nebraska? Dan Osborn could turn out to be Bernie 2.0, but we'll never know if we don't give it a shot.

I just find it so hard to believe that we've really lost the plot of our 50-state strategy.

What we want to accomplish (SCOTUS reform, aggressive legislation to restore the middle class) is going to take 60 votes in the Senate. (Maybe 59 and Lisa Murkowski will road test her independence and start to caucus with us?)

Maybe I am just foolish and optimistic, but I'm wondering if voters in the UK and France can turn it around quickly, why can't we do the same here?

I hear nothing at all about this race except they just assume Deb Fischer is going to win in a walk over. Osborn polls have Dan ahead but obviously take that with a grain of salt. And worst of all, not one word said about who would represent the people of Nebraska better, because who cares about that?!?!

I understand the Democrats not supporting someone who says he doesn’t want their help though. The (D) is so toxic in Nebraska I’m not sure it would help anyway.
