The cases emerge alongside widespread outbreaks of influenza, RSV, and H1N1.

mistrust & conspiracy theories used as their weapons of choice among their "troops."

I've known and respected Laurie Garrett for two decades but she needs to back off of blaming all that is bad in public health now on CDC (particularly retrospectively around the COVID response). That's a bit like blaming the Jews for the Nazis' embracing of the Holocaust against them. CDC-dedicated employees had only their knowledge and muffled voices--against those with power and an ignorant propaganda war machine.
