Rep. Doug Mann (D) files ethics complaint against Cheri Toalson Reisch's (R) campaign

Outgoing Rep. Doug Mann, D-Columbia, filed a complaint with the Missouri Ethics Commission against Cheri Toalson Reisch’s campaign for Boone County Commission last week.

The complaint alleged that one of Toalson Reisch’s signs promotes her campaign but does not include the required “paid for by” language under Missouri law. The sign was posted at the intersection of Business Loop 70 and Rangeline Street in Columbia but is no longer there as of Wednesday.

“When you see a sign like that, you don’t know if the campaign is being paid for by the campaign itself or by an outside group,” Mann said. “If we don’t have that information, then we can’t make truly informed decisions as voters.”

The ethics commission said that any campaign advertisement or sign must comply with “paid for by” disclosure requirements, according to its campaign material identification requirements page.
