Missouri's policies 'detrimental' to African Americans' health, national NAACP leader says
WASHINGTON The interim director of the national NAACP said Tuesday that his organization supports a travel advisory for Missouri because the state presents a policy landscape that is detrimental to African-Americans health.
The advisory, which interim national NAACP President Derrick Johnson said bubbled up from actions from the Missouri state chapter, will remain in place until at least late September.
Johnson is a Mississippi activist who was named interim president of the national organization on July 22. He said he believes the advisory has worked because of feedback the NAACP has received.
Based on the number of calls we have had from different groups who are considering holding their events in the state of Missouri, we think it is effective, Johnson said after a speech at the National Press Club.
