Ole Miss band to look away from 'Dixie' beginning this fall

JACKSON, Miss. | The marching band at Ole Miss is being asked to look away from "Dixie," as the old song goes.

University of Mississippi officials want the school's band to stop playing all variations of the song "Dixie" before football games.

Athletics Director Ross Bjork says he asked band to create a new pregame show that "is more inclusive for all fans."

It's another in a series of steps away from Confederate symbols for the university. "Dixie" was one of the anthems for the Confederacy during the Civil War.
