Winner declared in Ward 2 special election for Jackson City Council

JACKSON, Miss. — Montyne "Tina" Clay will fill a vacant Ward 2 seat on the Jackson City Council after winning a special election runoff.

Clay, a business owner and insurance agent, defeated Marcus Cheatham, who is a retired Army colonel in Tuesday's runoff election.

The absentee votes will be counted Wednesday afternoon. Clay could be sworn in as early as Oct. 31, according to a city spokesperson.

Clay will fill the seat that was left vacant after the resignation of Angelique Lee, who pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges in August.
