Pelahatchie city workforce stiffed on pay. Utilities owed. Who's to blame?
Nobody who works for the city of Pelahatchie got paid Friday and the town is delinquent on its utility bills, even though the money is there.
The checks are missing the mayor's signature, city officials say.
The fight over who has the authority to sign the checks is the latest development in an ongoing feud between the mayor and town alderman.
Friday marked the second consecutive pay period, or a month, since workers haven't been paid. It affects both employees on direct deposit and those who receive checks in the mail, officials said.
"The whole town hasn't been paid Public Works, the city clerk, dispatch, police. We get paid every two weeks and as far as we know the mayor won't sign the checks," Pelahatchie Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said Friday.
