by Hannah JonesOn Wednesday, Blue Dog Democrat, U.S. Representative, and man who reportedly did not vote (!) in the 2016 presidential election Collin Peterson was one of the only two Democratic holdouts in the Houses impeachment vote against President Donald Trump.
The resolution passed this morning at 228 to 197, with Peterson and New Jersey Democrat Jeff Van Drew opposed.

Credit where credit is due, we suppose. Peterson has been swearing hed do this for months, and back in September told MinnPost anyone who thought a partisan impeachment process would constrain President Trump was fooling themselves. The whole shebang would be too divisive, Peterson said.
Progressive Twitter is still catching up, with many just finding out about Petersons stance and track record. They cant believe what theyre seeing.

(8,822 posts)Sometimes you have live with the best you can get and this may be one of those places. I would rather him elected and help keep Speaker Pelosi the Speakers. Even though he may not vote for her, he does not vote for the Republican.
He is the classic case of dont let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

(28,471 posts)The rural areas may be redder but the suburbs are getting bluer. Two rural Congressional seats went from Democratic to Republican in 2018 but two suburban/exurban districts went from Republican to Democratic.
All the statewide races went to the DFL as did the state House of Representatives. The state Senate wasn't on ballot in 2018 or we might have taken that back as well.

(8,822 posts)It has a great history of progressives like its neighbor Wisconsin but lately ( lately is a long time for me) VP Mondale, Congressman Oberstar. I hold my breath and hope for the best, but it is a state I am looking as to spend a couple weeks before Election Day. I like to pick a swing area and go. I have gone to Florida the last few Presidential elections
At least with Tom Walz as the Governor we have a seat at the redistributing table but aside from Cong Omer seat, there are not a lot of safe D seats.
