Excellent letter about the "Cops for Trump"

The most shocking thing about Trump's rally in Minneapolis was not the bombastic, vulgar tone of his speech, the number of racist statements or the number of incorrect statements, but the fact that a solid red wall of "Cops for Trump" was standing behind him. As a result, I have a few questions for those officers.

Do you think that our democratically elected mayor is a bad guy? Do you believe that if given a choice, Minneapolis would like to rid itself of our Somali and Hispanic neighbors? Do you believe that the U.S. Congress has no right to oversee the president? Do you believe that standing behind Trump improves your relationship with Minneapolis minority communities or the majority of Democratic citizens you are supposed to protect and serve?

Or were you just simply happy to raise a middle finger to all of us Democrats who pay your salaries?

I respect every person's right to have and express an opinion, even those with whom I disagree. However, I was appalled by the red wall of cops looking like they sponsored the event.

I could not have expressed it any better.

in the first 5 rows with red cop shirts on. Many were young teens. Those tee shirts were for sale online and anyone could purchase one.

when the cops were told they couldn't wear their uniforms at the rally (unless they were on duty). Despite the city's majority Dem population, the MPD has been a bastion of racist assholery for decades.

Didn't there used to be a rule that if you were a Minneapolis cop, you had to live in Minneapolis?

In fact I think there was a time that if you worked for the city in any capacity you were required to live in it. I seem to recall applying for a social work job with the city not long after I got out of college & I was told during the interview that that was a requirement.

5. Very real, the head of the Minneapolis police union

Trump invited Lt. Bob Kroll, head of the Minneapolis police union, to the stage, along with other officers, all of them dressed in red "Cops for Trump" T-shirts. Kroll has been battling the city this past week over new restrictions on officers wearing uniforms in support of candidates at political events. The union then began selling the T-shirts this week, which many supporters were wearing, including a group standing behind the podium as Trump spoke.

"How can you thank this guy for everything he's done for law enforcement?" said Kroll, as the president stood beside him. "Wonderful president."

7. We should remember that the Minneapolis Police Union sold "Cops for Trump" t-shirts

and the president of the union, Bob Kroll, spoke at the Trump rally. So we shouldn't dismiss all this as just a bunch of teens and rent-a-cops as some upthread seem to be doing.

how he felt about Bush . His answer was that they were not allowed to show or express any political opinions. I would guess that rule doesn't apply in Minnesota ?
