Related: About this forumThe sirens last night sounded differently
There were lightning and rumbles but no rain. And then the rain started in earnest and then I thought I heard whistles, thought that it was the rain banging on the chimney. And then spouse came downstairs and said these were the tornado sirens. So we opened KARE11 - the closest to us. What we see and hear they do, too. And then the alert came on my cell phone. At least it passed fast.
Was really strange. We wondered whether the strong wind caused the siren to sound at a high pitch..
Hope everyone is OK, otherwise..

(5 posts)Why would anyone live in an area where they could be killed? People joked about California's earth quakes which do not kill as many people as tornado's. There must be something wrong with us if we continue to live in dangerous areas when we can move to another area? Though this world has unknown terrors including crazy people who make life a daily gamble...........
question everything
(48,799 posts)No, it is not the earthquakes in California, it is the fires. And you can find out how many perished by some of the fires. Not to mention losing everything you own. And the density and gridlocks on the freeways. And expensive houses.
Florida and the Gulf Coast have their hurricanes that are getting fiercer each year. Even snow storms have been going south of us, through Iowa and then circles to Wisconsin. And that tornado last evening was not much, compared to what they have been getting in "Tornado Alley."
Not to mention the horrible heat that they have had in the East Coast and even in the Pacific Northwest.
No, based on the last few year, weather wise, here is the best.
And... welcome to DU.

We also have a good warning system and have been fortunate that fatalities have been low.
