I hate ignorant people. Two older gentlemen talking about the tents off of Hiawatha Ave. and saying it's a protest. No that's not it. They are homeless people. And one says they can afford tents. I said no most were donated. I also mentioned that there are a lot of little kids there. They got uncomfortable and shut up.

(5,591 posts)Party has forced on our country. Not 100% exclusively but very heavily shifted onto their side of the aisle.
It is a soulless agenda.
Becoming the hideous norm in too many places.

(251 posts)Reminds of the time I was at a Mexican restaurant. Two old white guys sitting behind me talking about building a wall and deporting mexicans. I called them out in front of the staff. Talk about turning every shade of red.

(3,418 posts)The Twin Cities is one of the more affluent metro areas in th US and yet we have many that can't afford a place to live, even though working. I've watched housing being destroyed for many years to build freeways, malls and whatever. The population of the City of Minneapolis actually fell for many years because so much housing had been torn down and is now up to about 1970 levels, but there is a shortage of housing that drives rents higher and higher. If I didn't own my house there is no way I could afford to live here in retirement. Rents seem to start at around 900-1100 per month, which means you need to make over $30000 per year to just exist. Section 8 is hopeless with a waiting line so long that the last I heard they weren't even taking applicants. We need a complettely new housing policy in the United States. Relying on private developers for affordable housing has been a complette flop. What little public housing we have is inadequately maintained because of underfunding.

(25,346 posts)2040 isn't about housing density. It's about tax revenue. If the city council really wanted to increase real density, they wouldn't leave it to the developers. The developers just want to build luxury, overpriced apartments and condos, not affordable housing.

(7,419 posts)It's so easy to dump on people that you know nothing about. I have also been homeless and I can tell you that it really sucks. Thank you for speaking for those without a voice.

(767 posts)This is so sad that this country can spend 700 billion for defense and make wars. The war on poverty should be the main battle in this country and the world. One day this bold concept will be the solution to current and future wars when everyone is HAPPY.........We have to make sure the evil and corrupt ones are not allowed in our government so that a solution can take place.
