(120,835 posts)Far northern-northeastern MN, by the Canadian border. It's part of the Superior National Forest, and there are a lot of restrictions on where you can have any kind of motorized boat. Most of the lakes and streams are canoe-only - it's a very nice, wild, unspoiled area. https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd541129.pdf

(28,471 posts)I know Scots when I see it, but I'm a tad more familiar with Irish. Not as much as I used to be. I was going to brush up on it with Duolingo but, unlike Spanish, they don't seem to have anyone pronouncing the words (and I really need to brush up on that). Go figure.

(28,471 posts)I thought the spelling looked a little off so I did Google the phrases to check them & it came back confirming my idea they were Scots (and if you can't trust Google, who can you trust? )
Well, it has been a while since I dabbled in the language, at least I was in the right language family - just think of me as the confused elderly aunt.

(6,831 posts)Out here in Washington, we are fighting the scourge of off-shore drilling. It's insane how this administration is determined to destroy such beautiful wilderness that has been gifted TO THE PEOPLE. All of the people. As a veteran (with issues) I cannot say how vital and important natural areas are to our recovery.
I cannot wait to see these corporate whores removed from government.

(6,831 posts)It's like, "Well, we're already there, we can just extend our activity further in the area." NO NO NO NO.
Like drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. It was limited to verifiable oil pockets, then they started drilling all over. Running roughshod over environmental protections and common sense, they gave us the BP Deep Water Horizon disaster, from which parts of the more sensitive Delta have not recovered. They killed the fishing and seafood industry - from catch to table - and all of those whose livelihoods depended on it. And so much more. If you want to look further back, go to Alaska and see what is still there from the Exxon Valdez debacle.
This administration has NO respect for the environment or the citizens of this nation. Their greed is palpable. And we will suffer for generations if we allow them to continue to rape this land.
